The newest members of the Strom Thurmond High School (STHS) Athletic Hall of Fame include a basketball standout who starred under legendary Lady Rebels’ coach, Boots Bandy, and a pair of multi-sport stars who led the Rebels to state football titles.
The STHS Athletic Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025 – Betsy Scott Barger, Randy Bryan, and Aramis Hillary – were honored at halftime of the Rebels’ most recent home game versus American Leadership Academy on Friday, October 10. The Rebels were in firm control of the evening’s Region 2-AA contest en route to a convincing 54-0 shutout victory before the evening’s inductees and their families walked across the STHS Stadium field.
Let’s meet this year’s STHS Athletic Hall of Fame inductees:

BETSY SCOTT BARGER
Betsy Scott Barger played basketball at Strom Thurmond High School for three years. She was a starter for legendary coach, Boots Bandy. In 1974, she was named to the All-Conference Team, the All-Tournament Team, and named Strom Thurmond Female Athlete of the Year. She also played at W.E. Parker Jr. High School as a freshman, as a leader of an undefeated team. Following high school, she lettered four years as a member of the University of South Carolina women’s basketball team. Her freshman year was the inaugural season of the program at the university. In 1978, she helped the team win the AIAW Regional Championship. Following college, she coached basketball at the collegiate and high school levels.

RANDY BRYAN
Randy Bryan was a four-year starter for the STHS football team. During his time, the football program won three conference championships, had 2 state championship appearances, and won one state championship. He was voted team captain his senior year. He was selected to the South Carolina All-State team twice. Excelling on offense and defense, he was voted “Best Lineman” of the team. He was revered as the team’s “Coach on the field.” After high school, Bryan attended the Citadel as a fifth generation member of his family to attend the institution. Following college, he served locally as a dentist for 45 years.

ARAMIS HILLARY
Aramis Hillary was a three-year starter on the STHS Football team and the leading receiver on the 2005 State Championship team. The following two seasons, he served as the team’s quarterback. He was selected on the All-Region team three times, named Region Offensive Player of the Year in 2007, he participated in the North-South All Star Game, and was named the 2007 recipient of the Deon Grant Award which recognizes the CSRA Player of the Year. Following high school, he played collegiately at the University of South Carolina and Coastal Carolina University. He was named First Team All-Big South Conference in 2012. He was also a Chanticleer football team captain. He continues to serve Edgefield County as a coach, mentor, and entrepreneur.
